I don't get the whole slate thing.
I've never been in a situation where I thought to myself: "Hmm... if only my laptop had a smaller screen, and didn't have a keyboard."
If I'm going to be moving something along the sizes of an iPad around, I might as well just bring my laptop... Which I can do far more stuff on.

the ipad is way more portable i've found but still too big to bother with. this looks more compact enough to be worthwhile.
plus it actually can be used as a phone, it's faster, can multitask...

Pointless IMO
Who the hell wants to phone people on a massive tablet anyways?

Wow! Slightly smaller than an ipad (good thing), Lightweight, front and rear facing cameras, the ability to place calls, multitasking, bigger RAM...this sounds pretty awesome compared to the ipad!
Though I'm not much of a pad user anyway...like Eric, I don't really see the point, I have a smart phone, I have a laptop, both are great for their own reasons. The ipad and this galaxy tab just seem awkward to have. I mean, I suppose if you travel a lot it's sorta useful, but I would still prefer a full size screen to work on with an actual keyboard, than a small screen where the only things I can really do comfortably are surf the internet and read books.

I can see how an iPad would be useful as a studio control surface, but that's it.
You're not actually gonna start taking pics with your big tablet... That list of features is just a list of useless gimmicks. iPad has ios 4 = multitasking as of yesterday btw.
The main selling point of a tablet like the ipad is the apps, and as it stands the samsung offering lacks in that department.
I might get a second gen ipad to play with as a control surface but that's it...

FYI, the Galaxy Tab runs FroYo (Android 2.2) and has full access to the Android Market's 100,000+ apps.
saving for this now. 7" SuperAMOLED screen = GURN.
the only reason i'm hesitating would be touchwiz. proprietary UI mods really water down the experience for me. i'm going to have to root mine as soon as it shows up.

I'm just curious, I actually don't know. But are Android apps programed to be variable resolution and scale based on the device?
Not all Android phones use the same resolution, but yet all use the same apps. So I wonder how they'll do the transition to bigger screen. Including the upcoming netbooks, Ultraportables, and MIDs.

I presume that more apps will work better on differen resolutions going forward, but currently, my understanding is that it's not great...

Much like how the iPad apps started off?
