Let us hope that this is the beginning of the end for Gay Pride Days’ subsidies. For years taxpayers’ money from three levels of governments, federal, provincial and municipal, have sustained financial levies which were imposed on Canadians against their will.
Promoted by homosexual activists as proof of their national viability as a community, these vulgar and obscene annual propaganda events in a number of cities only proves that this group understands neither culture nor democracy. Since the mid-seventies, the newly founded provincial and national Human Rights Commissions, federal and provincial, themselves staffed by homosexual activists, have bullied cities across Canada into declaring “Gay Pride Week.” Over the years, at least a dozen mayors have been threatened with fines and other penalties when they and their Councils opposed the proposal to declare “Gay Pride Week.”
Toronto’s local paper, the Toronto Star, and its satellites such as the daily Metro, always claimed that the parade was a huge economic boom to the city and that for that reason alone, City Council and the Province should subsidize it. No proof has ever been provided that such has been the case other than completely exaggerated attendance figures. The influx of “tourists” may have benefited “gay bars and porn establishments, but these are not exactly businesses that benefit the economic and cultural growth of society.
Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement deserves credit for having cut down the Toronto pride funding to nothing instead of complying with the request for $600,000. Pride Week is not a desirable tourist event.
As the National Post put it: “feel free to stage a march or parade. But, please, do it on your own dime. As Toronto Pride Parade and several recent Sikh events have demonstrated, public funds should not be used to underwrite controversial gatherings for niche communities.” (“Pay for your own parade,” May 12, 2010).
Action: Throughout Canada citizens should protest local or provincial subsidies to their local politicians.
