About RCN
Just a heads up to everyone that starting on Saturday, there will be some new PM storage rules coming into effect.
As it stands, unless you manually trash your messages, they stay in the database and continue to take up space and the system itself is not being used efficiently. I'm putting in some new policies that will take more advantage of this system and clean things up a bit before we start moving things over to the new server and try and keep the DB a little bit smaller.
Here is a summary of the new changes coming into effect:
- Incoming messages will be automatically trashed after 30 days.
- Outgoing messages will be automatically trashed after 15 days.
- Messages in the trash will be deleted automatically from the system after 1 hour. Once they are deleted from the system, they are gone forever.
- If you have messages you want to keep for more than 30 days, please move that message to the Archive using the button on the right of the message title just above the trash can.
- You can store up to 100 messages in the archive.
- From the archive, you have the option to email a copy of the PM to yourself. This is great if you end up running out of room in the archive.
So everyone has a few days now to go through your messages and choose which messages you want to keep and place in your PM archive and which ones you don't mind if they get deleted. As I said, after Friday, it will be done automatically so make sure you don't loose any important messages with contact info or phone numbers.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T LOGIN VERY OFTEN, PLEASE READ THIS:
There are many people on here who don't login that often and might not realize they have any pm's waiting and might loose the message before they get a chance to view it. To avoid this situation, please go to your mailbox and choose the settings tab at the top and choose E-mail notification when offline. This will make sure are notified of any new PM's sent while you aren't logged in so you can go check them before they get deleted. Seeing as this isn't facebook, you don't have to worry about getting a million spam messages notifications.
Some of you might be worried about the 15 day trash policy for the outbox because that is where you keep some messages due to the original being deleted when you respond to it. That is only an option and can be turned off at the bottom of each message where the checkbox says "trash original". Uncheck that box to keep the original messagel in your inbox for 30 days or move it to the archive it if you want it for longer.
Don't forget now, you have until Friday night to choose what messages (if any) you want to keep and place them in the archive. You can move all the other messages to the trash or you can wait till after Friday when it will be done all automatically.

- The survey results will be posted late this week so check back for those.
- We sold a lot of the shirts last weekend but we do still have a few left over for those of you who would like one. I will make a post about them in the coming days including a price for shipping them to Ottawa. If you live outside of Ottawa and want one, please contact me directly ASAP so I can get a quote for shipping to your area as well.
- The new redesign for the site will start this week or next. I've decided to not wait till April to start work and I kow have a coder who will be working with me to iron out some kinks and design some custom apps for here ( HELLO MOBILE VERSION OF RCN!).
